The PMP is the gold standard of project management certification. It is a hard exam to pass which is all the more reason to maintain it. The Project Management Institute (PMI) lets you carry over a max of 20 personal development units (PDUs) in your current cycle towards your new cycle. Here are my 5 reasons why you should.

It is a great opportunity.

I am a Certified Scrum Master and ITIL certified. Neither Scrum Alliance nor AXELOS gives me this same opportunity that the Project Management Institute (PMI) to carry over 20 personal development units in the final year of your 3-year cycle towards your next certification cycle.

1/3 of the way done.

You need 60 PDUs to renew your PMP. You can carry over 20 of the 60 that you need.

It saves time.

Time, along with scope and cost, is one of the triple constraint. There is a benefit of getting credits for your next cycle during your current cycle.

It saves money.
