This Week in AWS: AWS Gives US Gov $1 Billion Coupon

AWS has just given the current US government a $1 billion coupon to use. This $1 billion coupon is part of the current administration’s AI and digital transformation.

Background

The General Services Administration (GSA) has released its presser stating that this promotion is part of the OneGov initiative.

Here is the GSA blog post about OneGov Strategy to better understand this new government program.

The OneGov strategy is all about accelerating AI adoption . The $1 billion coupon will let federal agencies use AWS services towards creating and delivering government services to the American public.

US GovCloud

And since we’re talking about the government, I want to also say that AWS is one of two public cloud providers (Microsoft Azure being the other), that is US GovCloud. US GovCloud means that AWS has met the US government standard to deliver cloud services. This is a big distraction. I also feel that AWS being a US GovCloud is a reason for the billion coupon promotion.

AWS + OneGov

The federal government is a huge customer for businesses. Amazon Web Services (AWS). Since AWS is an approved GovCloud company, this new coupon program would increase AWS and AI adoption. In addition, AWS has been leading in AI business and adoption with both Bedrock and SageMaker AI. Servicing the federal government means more current and future business
