This Week In AWS Community: Writing My Way Through

I am continuing my AWS Community Builders renewal series. I want you to know what this renewal process entails. Here I am talking about certifications since AWS Community Builders do get 1 certification voucher per cycle.

AWS Certifications

AWS exams range from $100 (foundational), $150 (associates), to $300 (specialty and professional). When you pass an exam, you’ll receive 50% off your next exam. Pretty good perk that I have used.

I particularly like this certification perk because obtaining certifications have a lot of portability. Many employers ask for this. Also when you give talks, being AWS certified builds credibility.

AWS Certifications and The Renewal Process

I’ve reached out to the AWS community builders program manager asking him about when does the new renewal period starts and certifications. He responds saying that if I submit my application February 1st, my new renewal period would start February 2nd. Great.

He then says that AWS Community Builders don’t generally accept AWS certifications as part of its renewal process because AWS certifications in themselves don’t directly help people. I get that. Obtaining certification is professional development but I am not helping…
